Learning Expectations

All students have the capapcity to learn and contribute to their educational experience. 

Reading Comprehension:

  • Extracts, understands, interprets, evaluates and relates information to prior knowledge.

  • Reads with inferential skills.

  • Understands the structure and characteristics of fictional and non-fictional literature.

  • Develops vocabulary

  • Develops an understanding of literary devices.

Written Skills:

  • Develops a clear point that is supported by relevant and sufficient evidence.
  • Includes content that consistently focuses on topic and contains accurate facts and information.
  • Selects a style that demonstrates understanding of audience and purpose.
  • Uses appropriate word choice and a variety of sentence structures.
  • Written products are well organized and logically constructed.
  • Understands and utilizes appropriate written mechanics.

Participation:

  • Students are expected to be an active contributer to the learning community.
  • Each student is expected to take responsibility for their learning.
  • Students need to come to class prepared with necessary materials.

Extention Activities:  Students will also particpate in activities aimed at improving their understanding of the historical context of post-depression Ireland, Irish culture, Irish architecture and Irish visual arts.
