Herbert W. Levine
Superintendent of Schools, High School Principal 

Dr. Levine brings a unique perspective on the qualities that determine success for educational leaders and has spent much of his career creating and implementing hiring processes that both attract and keep high quality candidates for leadership positions in education. He is well versed in developing the kind of communication systems that lead to all stake-holders feeling good about the critical decision making process that eventually leads to the hiring of leaders of children and professional staff.

Dr. Levine earned a Ph.D. from Boston College in 1995 and has served as an educator for 36 years before retiring in 2005. He began his career as a teacher and administrator in the Revere Schools and was hired as Assistant Headmaster/Dean of Students by Federal Judge Arthur Garrity in 1976 at South Boston High School during the tumultuous years of school desegregation. Serving at "Southie" for 12 years, he then accepted the Principalship of Timberlane Regional High School in Plaistow, NH, remaining in that position for four years. In 1992, Dr. Levine accepted the Principalship of Chelmsford High School an din 1996, accepted the Deputy Superintendentcy in Wakefield, MA. He finished his distinguished career as Superintendent of the Salem, MA Public Schools where he served from 1998 to 2005.

Dr. Levine now teaches graduate courses in education, is the Executive Director of the New England Association of School Superintendents and has been asked to coordinate the Lt. Governor's effort to establish a series of Recovery High Schools for youth who are coming out of detox.
