Intended Audience:  Parents, Family Members, Respite Workers, Child Caretakers, any interested party

Workshop Description:
This is a 5-part video series with accompanying hand-outs, activities, and discussion.  Participation in all 5 is encouraged for better understanding.  It is geared toward Autism Spectrum Disorders, but others dealing with communication and behavior issues related to students with special needs will find valuable strategies as well.

Week 1:   Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders and Communication
Week 2:   Informally Assessing Communication:  Students, Partners and Environments
Week 3:   Samples and Examples of Visual Strategies
Week 4:   More Samples and Examples of Visual Strategies; 
              Visual Strategies at Home:  Parent Interview
Week 5:   How to Create Visual Tools; Potpourri of Questions 

The intended outcomes for this video series:    

To identify significant factors in student/child learning & functioning style that affect communication

Informally assess a student's/child's communication strengths and challenges

Recognize specific situations where communication breakdowns can affect student/child understanding, behavior and participation

Develop visual tools and supports to facilitate the student's/child's reliable and consistent receptive commuication

Create and use specific visual supports that have significantly improved student/child communication, behavior and participation
