Elementary Professional Licensure

For:  Those Elementary Teachers with initial licensure seeking professional licensure-a high quality, in-district, affordable alternative!

Program Description:  The Cape Cod Collaborative has recently received approval from the Department of Education of offer a "District Based Professional Licensure Program" for teachers with an initial elementary level license. This path to professional licensure is an alternative to the traditional path which requires a teacher to obtain a Master's degree. This program requires that the participant teacher take two 4 credit courses (one course in numeracy and one course in literacy) and participate in a structured 50 hour mentoring program.

Advantages for Teachers: Participating teachers are able to obtain an elementary professional licensure without having to incur the expense of a "licensure related Masters Degree". The cost savings allows teachers to put their dollars to use to pursue a masters degree in other teaching/administrator areas (i.e. special education, technology, school administration, etc.) if they so choose.

Courses: The two required 45 hour (4 credit) courses will be offered through Framingham State College within a school building in the Barnstable/Sandwich area.

Mentoring: The mentoring experience will involve face to face discussions with an experienced educator within the participant teacher's home school. A total of 50 hours of mentoring will occur.

Cost: The total participant cost for the program is $1950. This includes 2 Framingham State College four credit courses and a 50 hour in-district mentoring experience.

How to apply: Call Sheila Murray at the Cape Cod Collaborative 508-564-5099 ext. 10 and simply submit your name, district, e-mail, home address, home phone (you may also fax this info to Sheila Murray at 508-564-5263). You will be invited to an organizational meeting which will take place in June (you will be notified of the time and place). A minimum of 14 participants is needed to conduct the program.
